BMI calculator
Weight and height are all it takes: your BMI, WHO category and healthy weight range update live.
BMI is a statistical indicator, not a diagnosis: it doesn’t distinguish muscle from fat and doesn’t directly apply to children, pregnant women or very muscular athletes.
How BMI is calculated
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height² (m). Example: 70 kg at 1.75 m → 70 ÷ 3.06 = 22.9.
WHO categories: under 18.5 = underweight · 18.5–25 = normal weight · 25–30 = overweight · over 30 = obesity.
Its limits
BMI doesn’t measure body composition: a muscular athlete can read as “overweight” without excess fat. It doesn’t directly apply to children (specific charts), pregnant women or the elderly. It’s a statistical benchmark — talk to a doctor for a real assessment.
FAQ
What is the ideal BMI?
There is no single “ideal”: the 18.5–25 range is statistically associated with the lowest health risk. Actual wellbeing depends on many other factors.
Is BMI reliable for athletes?
Not very: muscle weighs more than fat at equal volume. Waist measurement or body-fat percentage are better indicators for muscular people.
Is my data stored?
No. The calculation runs in your browser; nothing is transmitted or saved.
